October 11 – All Means All

“And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:19 (NASB)

Has your supply of anything run out? Are your reserves low? Energy, hope, faith, maybe just a few of the needs we’re facing. Maybe we’re blindsided by something totally unexpected and we’re laid flat out on our back. We hardly have the energy to get up. When we do, we struggle to regain focus and direction. God has given us a promise in this verse. We can lean on this verse and trust it even if we’re having a hard time understanding. Who will fulfill this promise? God. Not just any god but my God, our God. The one and only true God who is the supplier of everything we need. Sometimes we may not even know what we need or what we think we need is not what God knows we need. He will supply what we truly need and it is according to His riches. It’s not out of his riches, which would deplete the balance, but according to which will never deplete His store of infinite riches. These riches are in the Bank of Glory in Christ Jesus. What Jesus has done for us is permanent, lasting for eternity. All Your Needs Supplied by God.

November 18 – Giving Thanks Is A Gift

“ You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God.”   2 Corinthians 9:11–12. (ESV)

Do you ever consider how our thankfulness to God is a sacrifice pleasing to Him. Context is important in our selected verses. The Apostle Paul in this second letter to the believers in Corinth is encouraging them to be generous with what God has given them to live on. Paul was collecting offerings to help the saints in Jerusalem who were facing a pressing need under persecution. Paul teaches us two reasons for giving generously. First: A principle holds true in both the natural and the spiritual spheres: the size of a harvest corresponds to the range of the sowing. One can enjoy all their grain by consuming it, or they may reduce their store of it by sowing it and later reaping a bountiful harvest. Another reason for giving generously is that God loves us generosity. God esteems not the size of the gift but the giver’s attitude, sincerity (not reluctantly), choice (not under compulsion), and joyful willingness of a cheerful giver. The more one gives to others, the more they are enriched, and thus they can be generous in giving. Such a generous spirit toward others results in more and more people giving God the gift of thanksgiving.

May 30 – According To, Not Out Of

“And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 4:19 (NASB)

It is important to understand the context of our promise in today's selected verse.  The promise is simple to understand and it is that God promises to supply ALL our needs in proportion to His infinite resources, not just a portion out of his riches.  Think on that a moment.  There is no limit to the riches and the resources of our God in heaven.  His store of riches will never be depleted.  This is a blessed promise.  However, we must recognize this promise given in the Apostle Paul's letter to the Christians gathering in Philippi was a response to the gift they had sent to him. (Read verses 15-18.)  This generous church, itself facing challenges, gave generously to Paul's needs more than once and Paul affirms for them that their needs, in kind will be supplied. We can never out give the Lord. Be confident that He can and will meet every need that you have—especially as you are following Him in obedience.

February 21 – According to Your Faith

“When He entered the house, the blind men came up to Him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.” Then He touched their eyes, saying, “It shall be done to you according to your faith.”” Matthew 9:28-29 (NASB)

When Jesus was present and walking on earth as a man, He showed how important it is to believe in the power of God to meet our needs. In the Gospel of Matthew two blind men came to Jesus to be healed of their blindness.  Jesus asked them a question, “Do you believe I am able to do this?” Their answer was, “Yes, Lord.” When Jesus heard their answer which showed their faith, we read next that Jesus touched their eyes and said, “It shall be done to you according to your faith.” The result was that their sight was restored. These words of the Lord apply to each of us today. God is still looking to see if we believe that He is able to meet our needs. He is looking for faith in our requests and He acts in response to our faith. Let's affirm today that we believe in His power and we will see that He will do according to our faith.

September 18 – Freely Given

“What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.” 1 Corinthians 2:12 (NIV)

Our God knows what our needs are and He is very eager that we know how much He cares. Our verse today makes that clear. We trust that all who read this daily blog remember that when a person believes in Jesus as Savior, at that very time, the Holy Spirit comes to live within that person. Our verse today reminds us what His purpose is within us. He has come to help us understand what God has freely given us. Yes, that is His ministry in each of our lives. He is here to help us realize how much God has given us and how much He wants to continue to give us.  Let's listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit each day and let's open our hearts to receive what He offers us.

“But he said to them, “It is I; don’t be afraid.”  John 6:20 (NIV)

When the disciples were in a boat on a very stormy lake, Jesus came walking on the water. Even though the disciples were terrified when they saw Jesus, they had reason to be because they didn’t know who He was. So what they really needed to know was that it was their Lord and that He was near to them. He knew they needed Him and He came to help them and to bring them through safely. So just hearing His words and knowing it was Jesus took care of all their fears. This is what we need to know too. We need to know that He is near us, and that He is aware of our needs today. When we are going through a dark hour, we need to hear him speak to us as He did to His disciples.

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”  Revelation 3:20 (NIV)

These words are spoken by our Lord through the apostle John. Jesus tells us in these words what He wants to happen when He comes into our lives. He wants true fellowship with each of us. Actually, is that not what it means to be eating together? It means a sharing time and that is what Jesus wants in our lives. He wants to share with us His love and His purpose for the world. And He wants us to share with Him our thoughts, our desires, and our needs. Let us let Him into our thoughts today.

April 10

“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19 (NIV)

The apostle Paul wrote to the believers in Philippi thanking them for gifts which they had sent to him in prison. These gifts had helped meet some of his need there in Rome. He thanks his friends for helping, but he realized that it was God who was behind it all. And Paul knew that as God had met his needs, He would meet the needs of his friends. As he wrote, he went beyond thinking only of material needs. He said that God would meet ALL their needs. And that’s the promise for us, too. It is not wrong to expect God to meet our material needs, but remember He will meet ALL our needs, material, emotional and spiritual.
