October 11 – All Means All

“And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:19 (NASB)

Has your supply of anything run out? Are your reserves low? Energy, hope, faith, maybe just a few of the needs we’re facing. Maybe we’re blindsided by something totally unexpected and we’re laid flat out on our back. We hardly have the energy to get up. When we do, we struggle to regain focus and direction. God has given us a promise in this verse. We can lean on this verse and trust it even if we’re having a hard time understanding. Who will fulfill this promise? God. Not just any god but my God, our God. The one and only true God who is the supplier of everything we need. Sometimes we may not even know what we need or what we think we need is not what God knows we need. He will supply what we truly need and it is according to His riches. It’s not out of his riches, which would deplete the balance, but according to which will never deplete His store of infinite riches. These riches are in the Bank of Glory in Christ Jesus. What Jesus has done for us is permanent, lasting for eternity. All Your Needs Supplied by God.

September 30 – Supplying Every Need – How Not To Worry Part 7

“My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 4:19 (ESV)

Thirteen verses before the one we’ve selected for today we are given the specific command to “not be anxious about anything.”  Instead, with prayer and thanksgiving we let God know what is troubling us. (Philippians 4:6)  After looking at “how not to worry” in Matthew 6 for the past six days, today we see another affirmation here regarding why worry is useless. We are promised as believers in Christ Jesus that God WILL supply EVERY need.  And notice from where the supply for our needs come.  The come according to His riches…”  Not out of but according to. This is critically important for us to understand. God’s riches are without limit. “Out of” indicates that the source of supply diminishes as God provides for us.  Absolutely not. It is ‘according to’ and infinite supply. God will not run out of riches to supply our needs. As if we had a credit line from a bank that had no limit and no requirement for pay-back so, we’d never be broke. No matter how much and no matter how often we draw on God’s riches there will always be what we need in that supply for God to meet our every need.

December 13 – Power Not Just Pardon

“But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me.”  -  1 Corinthians 15:10  (NASB)

The Gift of Grace which we receive from God is not simply leniency when we have sinned. Grace is also a gift of enabling power of God not to sin. Grace is power, not just pardon. That is the promise we have in our verse today.  The Apostle Paul who wrote these words, claimed that Grace from God was the enabling power behind his work.  Grace was what made Paul's efforts not be useless efforts.  Like Paul says here, Grace is not simply the pardon of our sins; it is the power to press on in obedience.  It gives the desire, drive, and ability to work hard for our Lord. We give the credit to God for what is accomplished.,  Therefore, any effort we make to obey God is not an effort done in our own strength, but by the strength supplied by God.  Our purpose is that in everything we do God is glorified (1 Peter 4:11). It is the obedience of faith in God’s never ending supply of power that enables us to do what we should.

May 30 – According To, Not Out Of

“And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 4:19 (NASB)

It is important to understand the context of our promise in today's selected verse.  The promise is simple to understand and it is that God promises to supply ALL our needs in proportion to His infinite resources, not just a portion out of his riches.  Think on that a moment.  There is no limit to the riches and the resources of our God in heaven.  His store of riches will never be depleted.  This is a blessed promise.  However, we must recognize this promise given in the Apostle Paul's letter to the Christians gathering in Philippi was a response to the gift they had sent to him. (Read verses 15-18.)  This generous church, itself facing challenges, gave generously to Paul's needs more than once and Paul affirms for them that their needs, in kind will be supplied. We can never out give the Lord. Be confident that He can and will meet every need that you have—especially as you are following Him in obedience.

May 18 – Supplying Everything We Need

“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” 2 Peter 1:3 (NIV)

How true it is that God called us by His goodness. When we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior God gives us a new life but that is only the beginning of a wonderful process initiated by Him. It was not our idea, it was His. Our promise today is much like the promise we had in yesterday's reading. It is essential to understand this promise. Having called us and having brought us into His family our heavenly Father continues to enable us to fit into his family. Our verse tells us that God gives us everything we need for life and godliness. God wants us to be godly, to be like Him but He does not leave us to work at it by ourselves. He promises to supply the ability to live in a godly way and He'll do that today. Let's allow Him to do that each day and every hour of each day.

February 5

“I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.” Psalm 63:5 (NIV)

David wrote this psalm when he was in the desert fleeing for his life from those who were seeking to kill him. He was singing to God in a desolate situation. He had experienced the presence of God and the assurance of His love. He knew that God could satisfy the longings of his soul. He likens this spiritual satisfaction to that one receives from a delicious meal. He was probably thinking of the good food he had had before fleeing for his life. Our Lord can satisfy us that way too, supplying what we long for. There is no need that he cannot fill.
