“Many, Lord,
are asking, “Who will bring us prosperity?” Let the light of your
face shine on us. Fill my heart with joy when their grain and new
wine abound.” Psalm 4:6-7 (NIV)
David was
comparing His experience with that of other people of his day. People
around him were looking for happiness in material things such as good
harvests in their grain fields and in their vineyards. In contrast to
this David had learned to trust the Lord. He had found true joy in
the confidence which he had in God. So in our verse he prayed to God
to watch over him. When God looked upon him it was like a light
shining on his life. We can have the same experience of God watching
over us making everything light and full of joy. So let us pray with
David that the light of God’s face will shine on us and fill our
hearts with joy.
