June 26 – Amen to Amen

“For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.” 2 Corinthians 1:20  (ESV)

Do we ever wonder what we are saying when we say “Amen” at the end of a prayer or when we hear something we agree with and believe is true?  The word Amen comes from a Hebrew word and it is a word of affirmation.  The Apostle Paul is telling the Christ believers in the Greek city of Corinth that every promise we have of and from God are embodied in Jesus Christ.  All of God's Old Testament and New Testament promises:  peace, joy, love, goodness, forgiveness, salvation, sanctification, fellowship, hope, glorification, and heaven itself are made possible and are fulfilled in our Lord Jesus Christ.  We are being reminded here that we have a corporate, or collective “yes” to the truth of of His preaching and teaching.  Our response, when we hear the truth and promises of God proclaimed is to say, “Amen!” And sometimes we shout out "AMEN!"   Yes, we hold the promise that all the promises of God are affirmed in Him – Amen to that today!

October 18 – Yes and Amen Again

“For no matter how many promises God has made they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.” 2 Corinthians 1:20 (NIV)

We spend time each day on this blog, “90 Seconds With God's Promises” because of the encouragement His promises bring us in our day to day lives. Today's verse is one we have looked at in the past and today we look again for it is about these promises. Yes, we believe in the promises of God. Many of His promises in the Bible we find in the Old Testament. We believe them even though some of them were given before Jesus lived her on earth. Our verse tells us that in Christ all the promises of God are true for us. We can claim His promises for us in the name of Jesus because they are affirmed in Christ. As we pray in His name, Jesus is also interceding for us praying for us. And God the Father hears the prayers of His Son. This is our confidence that we have in this promise.

July 14 – Our Yes Is In Him, Amen

“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.”  2 Corinthians 1:20 (NIV)

This is a verse, if you have followed this blog for some time, that you may recognized and that we have visited it more than once before. We revisit it because it reminds us that we have a wonderful God  and He has revealed Himself to human beings since the beginning. We realize, that the clearest revelation of God came through His Son who  lived on earth in human form.  The promises of God have been made so much more meaningful to us as we have come to know His Son Jesus. As we now come to God and remind Him of any one of His promises we come in the name of Jesus who is at God's side praying for us and through Him we can be putting the “Amen” at the end of our prayers. Whatever God  has promised, Christ is the “YES” when we lay claim to those promises.

March 27 – Amen, It's a Yes!

“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.” 2 Corinthians 1:20 (NIV)

God has given many promises to His people from the very beginning and He gives us promises even today. Some of His promises of long ago are made real to us now and fit our individual needs. We each can think of a promise which has meant much to us, can’t we? As we trust in Jesus as our Savior we can claim God’s promises in a special way. Our verse tells us that believing in Jesus makes God promises real for us.  When God promises, he is not ambiguous with “Yes,” “No,” or “Maybe.”  We can be confident that all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a “Yes!” And we can offer, through Christ, our “Yes” which goes up to God for his glory.  This is why we say “Amen” at the end of our prayers or the end of a statement as our affirmation of it, so also we can affirm our belief in the promises God has made to us. Amen! Let’s say amen just as our verse says to the glory of God.

May 31

“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.”  2 Corinthians 1:20 (NIV)

This explains why God’s promises have a special meaning for us. Why is it that we can take a promise from God and expect Him to fulfill it for us? It is because we have trusted in Christ as our Savior. When we come to God expecting Him to do for us what He has promised, we don’t put our confidence in what we have done, but in what Jesus has done for us. We approach God in the name of Jesus, and we can remind God of His promise to us in the same way – in the name of Jesus. If we are truly trusting in Jesus, God’s answer will be “Yes” according to the promise of this verse.
