October 28 – One and Only, None Other

“And there is no God apart from me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none but me.  Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.” Isaiah 45:21b-22 (NIV)

We mention often here that God is the only God and that there are no other god.  These days, it is common to try to be inclusive of beliefs that worship other things as god.  There is also an effort by others to make it a competition between God and whatever they worship.  It was so in the days of the prophet Isaiah as well.  The people of Isaiah's time needed to hear a message like this because their neighbors worshiped other things as gods.  We also need to hear this message to encourage us. We do have a God who is real.  He is the creator God and all things were created by Him and He controls the universe.  He is in control of the big things and the smallest details of our lives.  He is the only one.  Our God is not one we select out of many options for there is none to compare.  By his own words He promises that there are none but Him.  Today, take that promise and live by it.  Trust in the only God and all who trust in Him will be saved.

August 16 – Holding Things Together

“He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”   Colossians 1:17 (NASB)

God is our creator and the creator of all things in the universe. Our Bible tells us that the Son of God participated in the creation and He is the One who died for us on the cross.  This verse selected for today is a promise of God's attributes and can be applied to eternity past, before the creation and the beginning of time.  It can also be applied to the way the Son of God is involved in keeping the universe together today and in the future. However, we want to bring the application closer to ourselves today.  We can rejoice that Jesus, the Son of God has always existed and that He continues to hold things together for us. As things around us seem to be falling apart, let's remember that our Lord knows what is happening and more than that, He is involved in our lives.  He'll continue to hold things together for us, He won't let things fall apart as we trust Him.   As our creator, He created the means that holds all things together, He is the 'glue' that holds everything together*.

May 25 – No Other Heard or Seen

“Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.” Isaiah 64:4 (NIV)

In the beginning God created the universe and then He created people. Since that time people have worshiped other things and forces as if they are gods. But, they have been mistaken. No matter how they try, no one can see and no one can hear from any God besides the Creator God. There is only one true God and He is a personal God who takes a personal interest in His creation and the people He created. Our verse today teaches us that our God acts on behalf of those who wait for Him. He responds to us who look to Him for help. He has declared that He is the one who helps us and He does things for us which we are unable to do for ourselves. Let's be thankful to our God for taking a personal interest in us and for taking action in our behalf when we look to Him.  Let's thank Him as the prophet Isaiah did by confessing that there is no other god that we can hear or see besides our true God.

March 15 – He is Great, Trust Him

“By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.” Hebrews 11:3 (NIV)

We have a great God. His greatness is really beyond our comprehension and yet we believe He is great and we trust Him. This truth is emphasized in the Bible verse we have today. God has revealed to His people long ago that He is the one who created not only people but the earth and also the universe. Long ago His people believed it and wrote it down for us to read. We have read it in the bible and we believe it too. All of this helps us to believe in God’s greatness. And, if we believe he is so great, that is a basis for believing that He can do what He has promised. His promises about taking care of our daily needs and working out our problems are true. Yes, He is a great God. He is able to take care of us always.
