August 16 – Holding Things Together

“He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”   Colossians 1:17 (NASB)

God is our creator and the creator of all things in the universe. Our Bible tells us that the Son of God participated in the creation and He is the One who died for us on the cross.  This verse selected for today is a promise of God's attributes and can be applied to eternity past, before the creation and the beginning of time.  It can also be applied to the way the Son of God is involved in keeping the universe together today and in the future. However, we want to bring the application closer to ourselves today.  We can rejoice that Jesus, the Son of God has always existed and that He continues to hold things together for us. As things around us seem to be falling apart, let's remember that our Lord knows what is happening and more than that, He is involved in our lives.  He'll continue to hold things together for us, He won't let things fall apart as we trust Him.   As our creator, He created the means that holds all things together, He is the 'glue' that holds everything together*.

September 19 – Where Help Is

“Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 124:8 (NIV)

This is a promise God has given to us – help in His name.  When we turn to the Lord for help of any kind in our lives it is always well to remember who He is. We believe what the Bible tells us about our God creating the earth on which we live. The Bible goes beyond that and assures us that the sun and the moon, the planets and all the stars were also created by our God. All of this, of course goes far beyond our ability to fully comprehend. This is the kind of God we have and yet He is involved in the details of our lives. We really can't comprehend that either; but we can choose to believe it.  And we can turn to Him today and depend on Him to help us in big things and in little things.

April 2 - He Will Never Give Up

“The Lord will accomplish what concerns me; Your lovingkindness, O Lord, is everlasting; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.” Psalm 138:8 (NASB)

It is so good to know that our God is directly involved in each of our lives. The psalmist David who wrote these words was aware of that. We also need to be aware of that. God is the one who has given us life and He has a personal interest in each one of his creatures. The psalmist was aware that it was the love of God for him that was behind it all.  And that’s true for each of us too. God’s love for us never changes and so we know that what He has begun in each of our lives He will carry it out if we allow him to. As we trust our God He will finish what He has started in each of our lives. He will not give up on us.
