“For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.” - Romans 8:24-25 (ESV)
Hope as we find taught in our Bible is a hope that has assurance and expectation of fulfillment and is not a wishful kind of hope. But what are we hoping for in our lives as followers of Jesus Christ? We are hoping for what we know will be ours but we do not see it yet. We hope for an eternal life in heaven with God and we are assured that is ours but we do not yet see it, do we? This is the promise of our verse today. This is the hope that we have because we are now children of God. We do not hope for what we hold or have but we do hope for what we have been promised but is not yet manifested. Our verse tells us that this hope goes with patient waiting. Patience in our hope because we hold the confidence that we will see our hope fulfilled. It is already ours in waiting so we can trust in it and that is what faith is also.
