October 4 – Who's Our Daddy?

“For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.  For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” ”  - Romans 8:14-15   (ESV)

If we pay attention to what is happening in our world these days, we might have a fearful reaction and more than a little anxiety.  We hear the question, “What IS happening to our world today?” being more and more because people are losing the sense of security they had in their way of life. Things in our world are not like they used to be and that is disrupting.  We want to go back to those days and we cannot.  But we can take heart and be encouraged because of this promise from God.  If we have surrendered to God and now are led by His Spirit, we have assurance that we are children of God and a part of His family.   When we were born again into God's family by the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ, we were set from being slaves to fear and worry.  Our future is secure even if our life now faces difficulty and our faith is tested.  We can actually look to God our Father who loves us like like his own.  He invites us to call Him “Daddy” which is the colloquial meaning of “Abba”.  His promise protects us perfectly in every storm.
