“To the choirmaster: on The Gittith. A Psalm of David. O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.” Psalm 8:1 (ESV)
Some of the songs we have in our bible begin with notes of instruction and who wrote it. This verse today says it is for the choirmaster and meant to be accompanied by a Gittith. It was
written by David. A gittith is a simple harp with just a few strings. They were very common in the time that David wrote these songs. The song begins by declaring how great our Lord is and how majestic His name is. Majestic refers to majesty and Majesty is what we call a King. We need to remember to praise God for He is our Majesty. He is over all things. He holds dominion and authority over everything. He holds all things together both here on earth and in the heavens above. While the song continues to praising God we can rejoice in the promise we have here that God Himself set His glory above the heavens and this is something that cannot be done by any other being or non-god. No other person or entity has created God for he has been forever. Just as yesterday's promise, there is none that are equal to or greater than our God. We don't need a small harp to sing this song for we can remember it and declare it whenever we want and where ever we go.
