“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,” Ephesians 1:18 (NIV)
Just a few days ago we considered the promise that because Jesus came to earth and became poor, we can become rich if we believe and receive the gift He offers us, forgiveness and eternal life. The words in today verse describe what the writer, the Apostle Paul was praying for on behalf of the believers in the city of Ephesus. We can apply these words to ourselves today. Our needs are similar, especially our spiritual needs as our spiritual eyes and understanding need to be opened and enlightened. Why? Because God wants us to know the promise and hope of the inheritance he has reserved for us. He wants us to know now, in our present world, what experiences he has ready for us. God has much to teach us about Himself while we still live here on earth. He also has great things for us to look forward to in heaven. So, let's open our hearts to receive the things God wants to teach us.
