April 22 – Summoned By Name

“But now, this is what the Lord says— he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel:  “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.”  Isaiah 43:1

These are great words of assurance for God’s people a long time ago, so what is the good reason for us to read them today? It is because we believe that they tell us what kind of God we have. In Old Testament days God was dealing with Israel as His special people. Since Jesus came to earth and died on the cross and rose from the dead, God has been dealing with all who believe and accept Jesus as Savior. Jesus died to redeem us from sin. God wants us to know we are redeemed and that God considers us His own – we belong to Him. He knows each of us by name.  He says to us, “Fear not for I have redeemed you.”
