April 18 – Peace I Leave With You

“On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!”” John 20:19 (NIV)
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27 (NIV)

We choose two verses today to remind us of an important message Jesus gave to His disciples on the evening of the day He rose from the dead. His message was “Peace be with you.” This was the message he had left with them just a few nights before during the Passover meal. Jesus knew that they would have a special need for the kind of peace he had for them. Because of His death, the followers of Jesus were disturbed and they were gathered together probably with some fear. Jesus appears to them and gives them the peace that they need. Jesus wants us to have that same peace, His peace which is not the kind of peace the world gives. Jesus has made it possible for us to experience His peace every day and in every circumstance, no matter what is going on in our world. “Peace be with you today!”
