This is an expression of faith in the sovereignty of God and also in His loving care. The psalmist David was aware that God was in control of the events of his life and the assurance made him relax because he knew that God was taking care of him. You and I can have the same kind of assurance. If we know that God is in control and that He is a good and loving God, we can be sure that He’ll take care of us and that we are SAFE in His care. We can relax as we think of the future which is all in His good hands.

“Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure.” Psalm 16:5 (NIV)
