We need to be reminded of our dependence upon God and our need to keep in touch with Him. This verse is a picture of the true believer in the Lord. Maybe we shouldn’t call it a “picture” because when the roots of a tree grows out in search of moisture, one cannot see which way the roots are growing. But we know they are there. Those roots going out in the direction of the source of moisture are like our faith. When we trust the Lord we come in touch with the source of life, and that faith draws into our lives the strength and ability to live for God.

“But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that send out its roots by the stream.” Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NIV)
