February 1 – Proof

“Vindicate me, Lord, for I have led a blameless life; I have trusted in the Lord and have not faltered.  Test me, Lord, and try me, examine my heart and my mind; for I have always been mindful of your unfailing love and have lived in reliance on your faithfulness.”  - Psalm 26:1-3 (NIV)

We are still in the early part of this year and it is timely to reflect a bit on the year past. If we are doing our due diligence regarding taking care of our physical health, we visit our doctor annually for a physical examination of our body's health. Part of the exam is the doctor reflecting on how we are taking care of conditions that need our attention. Our verse today is a verse of reflection.  It is the psalmist's plea to God to do examination of his spiritual condition. The psalmist is David who by faith claims to have led a blameless life;  but not on his own by any means. He wants that claim to be verified. Test me, or examine me, or prove me, is what the psalmist is asking God to do. We too need to seek such examination by God of our life. Open my heart and lay bare the workings of my mind and find in me the trust that I have in your steadfast love.  That  is a promise and because of God's love and faithfulness, we too can trust that our walk has integrity without faltering or wavering.

November 5 – Always Accomplish, Never Forsake

“The Lord will accomplish what concerns me; Your lovingkindness, O Lord, is everlasting; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.”  Psalm 138:8 (NASB)

Each day we look at a verse or two in our Bible and we look for the promises God has made that we can find there.  We know that when God promises us He will absolutely keep that promise.  David is affirming his belief in this in today's verse.  Promise number one is that our Lord God will, without fail, accomplish what concerns each of us each day because he is involved in our lives.  Other versions say that the Lord will “fulfill His purpose” or, that “He will vindicate”.  God's work is our salvation and growth in the Holy Spirit.  Another promise is that God's love is steadfast and endures for ever for it is everlasting lovingkindness.  The last promise David declares is his confirmation plea to God to not forsake or abandon His work.  David knows, and so do we, that God will never forsake us and He will never abandon His work in our lives. We have assurance of that certainty.  Let's affirm these promises today.  God is at work and He will accomplish what He intends to do.
