April 10 – Say It Together

“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?”  -Romans 8:31  (NASB)

These days there is more than a good chance that our circumstances will bring us down.  Even though we are keeping the stiff upper lip, and many are trying to give us a sense of hope, they really are still in a quandary as to what is the best response and how to solve the many holes in what we need.  There are questions about how we will live in this changed world and if we will ever get back to our normal.  Perhaps we will not.  But there is one thing we can know and that our enemy will capitalize on our angst and discomfort and do whatever he can to destroy our peace.  It is time to remember who is on our side.  God promises us that He is for us.  That is like telling us we cannot lose anything of real value.  Yes, we may lose some of the comfortable routine we have had and perhaps we need those stripped from us.  But of what really matters, is not who is against us because God promises to always be on our side.  Cling to that promise today and every day.  Trust in and Rejoice in the LORD.

January 31

“What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31 (NIV)

This question is really meant to encourage us in our Christian life. We have many Bible verses which remind us that God loves us. That He accepts us and His Children when we believe in Jesus. In the verses before this in Romans 8 we are told that He is involved in our lives each day in every way and that there is nothing that will ever be able separate us from His love. If all that is true, then we can be sure that God is for us. So the question in today’s verse is “who can be against us?” It does not mean that no one can be against us. Satan is still the great enemy of our souls as He is God’s enemy. What our verse means, of course, is that God is greater in power than any enemy. We can know that whoever is against us is not able to defeat God who is for us. We have victory in Jesus.
