October 18 – It Lasts Forever

“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” Isaiah 40:8 (NIV)

These words remind us of the importance and permanence of God’s Word.  His Word is given to us through the Bible and It is so important to remember that what we are hearing or reading is THE WORD OF GOD.  Sometimes we are apt to be diverted by others around us, by the one who is teaching or speaking.  Even the presentation can obscure the truth that it  is God who is speaking to us.  We need to really listen to what God says and to recognize the real source of what we are hearing.  When we try to augment the way His Word is delivered with gimmicks and various demonstrations, we may forget who is teaching or how we have heard the word.  We do not need fancy dressing and entertaining ways because we should never forget what God has said to us in plane and straight forward ways. His word is true forever. It will last forever. It will never change.

September 1 – Standing, Not Fading

“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”” Isaiah 40:8 (NIV)

Today's promise comes from the writings of Isaiah, a prophet of God, as he contrasts the things of this world and the things of God. We enjoy the beauty of the natural world around us – the fields of wildflowers and forests of trees but we know that they are only for a season and will wither and fall. This is true of so much around us which is constantly changing. In contrast to the changing things in our lives we do know also of the things of God which do not change. Our verse reminds us that God's word is forever. What he has said will never fail.  Isaiah wrote these words many centuries ago and they are just as true today. God is the unchanging One. Let's trust what He has said, it will not fade away.
