April 29 – Accomplished All We’ve Done

“O Lord, you will ordain peace for us, for you have indeed done for us all our works.” - Isaiah 26:12 (ESV)

The Book of Psalm is often called the song book of the Bible. Other Books also contain songs and today's verse comes from one in the book written by the prophet Isaiah. This prophet spoke the Words of God to the people and leaders of Israel; words given to him by God which contained many promises and warnings. This is a reminder of the involvement of our God in our lives. God has been involved in the lives of His people since before Israel’s time. In the kingdom believers are promised that they will enjoy the peace God gives and will know God’s work on their behalf. In our verse God’s people recognize that anything accomplished through their lives is really the work of God. So we do need to remember that we can’t do anything of real value on our own. And, we must never forget that our God is really involved in the things we do each day. To recognize His involvement does give us peace in our hearts because we know that what He does in us is worthwhile and has eternal value and effectiveness.

December 5 – Great Things He Does

“Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God,” 2 Corinthians 3:5 (NASB)

The Apostle Paul was thinking about the results of his ministry in the city of Corinth. Many people had been brought into the family of God while Paul was preaching and teaching in that city. As he writes this letter he wanted to be sure to acknowledge that it was God who deserves the credit for the results of his work. Too often we are tempted to consider our Christian work is  the result of our own efforts. We all need to consider and be careful to give our Lord credit for His work in our lives. God is involved in anything of value in our lives. We need to recognize that without God's working in and through us nothing of eternal worth is accomplished. Let's remember the promise that our ability, our sufficiency, and our adequacy come from God. He wants to use us to do His work, to do something worthwhile in life. Let's allow Him to use us today. The words to the hymn, “To God Be The Glory” helps us to sing out the truth of God’s competence and ability to provide our adequacy in this life. “Great things He has done.”

August 7 – Greater Value

“More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ,”  Philippians 3:8 -   (NASB)

Before the Apostle Paul became a follower of Jesus Christ, he was an accomplished and respected man.  He was successfully attaining top marks and best practices in his religious education and practice.  As a fierce defender of the Jewish Law, he was on his way to becoming a significant man of influence.  With his help and reputation, the religious leaders of his time were going to stamp our the new cult of Christ followers.  But then God invaded his life and Paul met Jesus Christ while he was on the road to Damascus.  Everything in his life from before, all the accomplishments of his life became insignificant and of no value.  Tossing his resume aside as worthless garbage, Paul lost it all because he knew the promises that came from knowing Christ Jesus as his Lord.  These are our promises too.    There is a much greater value in knowing Christ Jesus our Lord than in having a superb curriculum vitae. That was the value of gaining Christ as Savior.  This is true for us also, nothing has greater value than being in Christ Jesus.

October 12 – Established Peace

“Lord, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us.” Isaiah 26:12 (NIV)

We believe these words are true for us who belong to God's family today. We must never forget how much our Lord is involved in our lives. One of the goals that God wants for each of His children is peace in our hearts. The enemy of our souls does not want us to enjoy spiritual peace but our God wants it for each of us. So, when we do sense this kind of peace let's remember that it has come from God. We don't work it up by ourselves. Our verse reminds us also of how much all we do accomplish is because of what God has done for us. We need to be thankful to Him for working all kinds of things out for us.

March 20 – Give Him the Glory

The Bible makes it clear that we have a God who is personally and intimately involved in our lives. We are reminded of this in the Bible verse chosen for today. Our peace is established by God and what we accomplish is to God's credit. We are so prone to think that we should get credit for things that we do in our lives. However, God wants us to remember that He is the One who is working in our lives to accomplish His purpose here in this world.  Yes, our God has created us and all the rest of this universe. He has created the people we’re living with. He not only created us all but He is looking for people who will acknowledge Him for all He has done, for all He is doing. Every day and in all the details, God is involved in our lives and we should today give Him the glory for what He has done.
