October 1 – Always to the End and Beyond

“And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”  Matthew 28:20b (ESV )

Jesus Christ promised his apostles and us that He is always with us. The promise in these words which were spoken by Jesus to his 11 Apostles (Judas, of course was no longer, having betrayed Jesus to the Jews and then in regret hung himself. Matthew 27:5). After His resurrection and his appearing to them while they were still behind closed doors, Jesus sent them to Galilee with the promise to meet them there, and He did. These are the final words recorded in Gospel of Matthew of what Jesus said to them in Galilee. Very soon afterward Jesus is again with the Apostles and other disciples on the Mount of Olives. It is here that Jesus promises the coming of the Holy Spirit and His power. Luke records these last words of Jesus before he leaves them and ascends into Heaven (Acts 1:7-11). This promise in Matthew 28:20 comes as part of the Great Commission given to the apostles by Jesus. All who by faith have receive Jesus as Lord and Savior have also received this commission. When our circumstances now and future are unsettling this is a comforting promise from Jesus.  He is with us – Always.
