August 29 – Fully Persuaded

“No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised.” Romans 4:20-21 (ESV)

When God called Abram out of Haran, his homeland and told him to move to a foreign land called Canaan, He made a significant promise to Abram to make him a great nation. Twenty-four years later, God would change his name to Abraham and God promised that he would be heir of the world (Romans 4:13). Abraham would become an example of faith that perseveres. Abraham is called a man of faith in both the Old and New Testaments. Today's verse from the letter Paul wrote to the church in Rome set out that example. But we do not share these words to encourage us to admire Abraham but to follow his example because we have the same God Abraham had and believed. God has not changed because He cannot change. He had power to do what he had promised for Abraham and He did for him what seemed impossible. He'll do the same for us. So, think of some promise God has given to you, then hold fast to it – do not waver or wonder, it will come in His timing. Instead of fretting, trust and be fully persuaded God will do what He has promised.
