August 27 – Big Faith or Little Faith?

Jesus Himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they *woke Him and *said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”  Mark 4:38 (NASB)

What is going on in this world?  More unexpected events and events beyond our control.  From illnesses we know little about to weather acting out of its boundaries. Worry factor is way up and we are desperately trying anything that will help us manage day to day.  But not everything can be managed by us.  Then what do we do?  The disciples, crossing the Sea of Galilee. Jesus is bone weary and has tucked himself into the back of the boat and is taking a nap. Then, like so often, a sudden serious squall popped up.  This one was stronger than many.  The boat is in danger of being swamped, or so the disciples feared.  They turn to find Jesus sleeping.  How can He sleep in this?  Does He not care if we drown in this?  Jesus is woken up and by a word changes the weather immediately. What did they expect Him to do?  He didn't need to be woke. Jesus knew and cared and of course He had no intention of letting them drown.  If they had big faith, they would’ve known that they were safe in the storm because Jesus was asleep in the boat with them.
