August 21 – Infinitely Strong and Mighty

“There is none like God, O Jeshurun, who rides through the heavens to your help, through the skies in his majesty. The eternal God is your dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms."  - Deuteronomy 33:26-27a (ESV)

‘Jeshurun’ a term used in this verse is a poetic name for Israel, both as a people and a place. Jeshurun is used only in poetry to refer to the complacent people of Israel  It is Moses speaking to the people for his last time. He is blessing each of the tribes of Israel. This was part of the blessing to the tribe of Asher. We still worship and serve the same God and this promise is ours today. Our promise that the eternal God is our refuge and his everlasting arms are what keep us up when difficulties in life come our way and ear of our enemies overwhelm us. It is a great comfort to know God loves us so much. Charles F. Stanley describes it this way. “Can we have a better friend than one who is infinitely strong and mighty, yet at the same time loving and gentle? Our God tenderly loves us and protects us, yet has defeated all our spiritual enemies, including the devil.” Let us go forth today encouraged that we are able to face our world because underneath us are God's everlasting arms.
