July 12 – Comprehending the Incomprehendible

“...that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, - Ephesians 3:17-18

We are looking at a clip from a prayer offered up by the apostle Paul as he was praying for the believers in Ephesus. If you notice the “with all the saints,”  then you notice that he included us in his prayer.  If you by faith have believed in Jesus as your Savior, then God has sent to you the Holy Spirit and Christ dwells in and with you through His Spirit. More than dwelling, Christ roots us in His love and grounds us.  Anyone who has kept a garden or a farm know how critical it is for crops to take root in the ground to draw their nourishment from the soil.  The soil of God where we are grounded and where our spiritual roots take hold is His love. This is done when Christ sets us aside as His own and that is why we are ‘saints.’ So this prayer is for us. The request is that we might grasp how great the love of Christ is. We are human. God’s love is divine. We will never understand it fully but with His help we can learn more of its greatness.
