“This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” -1 John 1:5 (ESV)
Just a few days after the founding of the Church on the day of Pentecost, just fifty days after the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we find Peter and John (the John who wrote this epistle), in the Temple.  They were proclaiming this very message found in today’s verse.  The promise that God is light to the point that no darkness exists in Him, none at all. The disciples who scattered and fled and one who stuck around but denied knowing Jesus are now on the job of proclaiming the Good News about Jesus the Nazarene who was crucified, died, buried and resurrected by God. In the New Testament we read of how we share in the faith and blessings from God.  But we do not find where we are to “share” the Gospel with others, a modern colloquial term we use to reference evangelism and telling the Good News, the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Peter and John proclaimed Jesus Christ as Messiah every time they preached to the crowd. Those who believed shared in the receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit. They proclaimed Jesus so that others would hear and share in the blessings of salvation from Jesus.
