“If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.” - 1 Peter 4:14 (ESV)
If we are honest, and that is the best way to be all the time, we would admit that we do not like suffering. We may actually think that we have suffered enough for a life time because of what we have gone through the past three months. Yet many of God’s promises become clearer to us when we are suffering for His Name’s sake. In the context of our verse today, the next verse reminds us not to suffer for doing criminal acts and other things done by evildoers. Tomorrow we will look at verses 15-19 of this chapter. Today we have the promise of blessing. Suffering Christians do not have to wait for heaven in order to experience His glory. Through the Holy Spirit, we can have the glory now. For we are promised that if we are insulted or reviled because we profess the name of Christ as our Savior and Lord, we will be blessed. And who will do this blessing? It is God through the Holy Spirit. Their curses become blessings, because the Holy Spirit, who is "the Spirit of glory," already indwells us. We are promised this blessing.
