“…but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.” - Psalm 1:2-3 (ESV)
The blessed man takes a different path than the one taken by wicked sinners who scoff (Psalm 1:1). The faithful find happiness and delight in God’s Word. His Word is revealed in the Law of our Lord. Our delight is found and enjoyed by spending our time in what God has revealed to us through reading, studying and thinking on His Law without end. Day, night, and all in between, when the word of God anchors our thoughts, we are promised that we will find delight by following the commands and teaching in the Scriptures. The value of this promise is illustrated with a tree planted near a water source. It feeds on that source, it sends its roots deep, it produces the fruit it was created to bear. Such a dedicated habit develops our stamina for dry spells. We are promised to succeed and prosper in all seasons of our life producing fruit for God’s glory. Let’s not confuse this promise with the false teaching that all believers are promised temporal riches and wealth, jets, cars, multiple houses and fancy sneakers. This is prospering in our blessedness and happiness found in our walk of faith with God.
