“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” - Romans 5:1-2 (ESV)
Glory is sadly misunderstood these days. Today’s definitions fall far short of the definitive meaning presented in the Bible. Seeing the glory of God is our ultimate hope and goal. Jesus, in all His person and work is the incarnation and the ultimate revelation of the glory of God. “He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of His nature.” Hebrews 1:3 (ESV) Seeing and sharing in God’s glory is a promise and ultimate hope through the gospel of Christ. If we know such a hope and if it is truly treasured, it has a substantial and crucial effect, on our values right now. It influences and guides our choices, our actions, our speech, and our thoughts. As we come to know the glory of God and as we study the glory of God and of Christ, we will come to treasure the it in all things and above all things. We learn how it makes the imitation glories of the world collapse and shatter like Dagon, the pagan idol of the Philistines (1 Samuel 5:4) Let’s strive today to treasure the glory of God above all in this world.
