December 20 – Bethlehem's Breaking New

“Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.” - Luke 2:14 (NASB)

This time of the year, if we listen carefully we might hear singing of Christian Christmas carols. They remind us of the singing of the angels for a group of shepherds outside of Bethlehem just after they announced the birth of Jesus. Whether this time of the year coincides with when Jesus was born or not, it is an opportunity to reflect more than we do normally about God’s gift to us when he sent His Son to earth.  The angels were sent by God to deliver this “breaking news” bulletin.  The angels knew some of the significance of the coming of Jesus  and they knew it was God's doing. They also knew He was worthy of their praise. God’s peace is not a reward for those who have good will, but a gracious gift to those who are the objects of His good will.  There are so many things about Christmas time that beg for our attention. Let us not let them detract us from the true meaning and our need to give God in the highest all the glory!
