“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6 (ESV)
Some like to brand Philippians as the happiest book in the Bible, yet it was written in the prison while the Apostle was waiting for his the outcome of his trial before Caesar and he may well have been facing execution. But Paul writes in this letter to the followers of Jesus in Philippians that he believed in the promises God had made to him. He knew that to be true also for the Philippians who believed and followed Jesus. So it is true for us who believe as well, it is God who begins this good work in us. It is His good work of salvation and we realize that we will encounter pain, suffering will invade our life, and tears will fall. But we can be confident in our faith that when God begins a work of salvation in a person, He finishes and perfects that work. God will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ which looks to our final salvation, reward, and glorification as believers.
