“We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name.” Psalm 33:20-21 (NIV)
Our God is a great source of joy. This is a truth that shows up frequently in our study of God's promises. Only two days ago we considered how our God of hope fills us with joy and peace in believing. Paul was encouraging the believers in the city of Rome. It is very likely, since Paul had studied the Old Testament a great deal that he drew his teaching from one of these verses. Today we read how the psalmist wrote that in Him our hearts rejoice. Our faith in God is not just a mental, intellectual attitude. It affects our inner being. It fills our hearts with joy and gladness. Actually that is how the psalmist describes what happens when we put our faith in God. He says that trusting in the Lord is what produces the joy. Yes, you can trust the Lord for whatever you are facing today. As you depend on Him to take care of your needs, and you realize what a great and holy God He is, the result will be joy. His joy will fill your heart.
