September 20 – Ascribing Attribution

“Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.”  Psalm 29:2 (NIV)

Our verse today calls us to 'ascribe' to the Lord the glory He deserves. We don't use the word 'ascribe' so much in our normal conversations but we use words with similar meaning.  As we think of worshiping God we realize that worship involves respect for the character of God.  It involves recognizing who God is and what is due to him in our times of worship.  The promise we have is that our Lord deserves Glory which we are to acknowledge comes from Him.  It emanates from His holiness.  He is also the only person self deserving of glory because of who He is. We recall the glory of heaven where He dwells when we worship Him.  God's holiness separates Him from sin in all its aspects. He imputes that holiness to us when we believe.  Each time we worship Him, we make that recognition a part of our approach.  Let us worship Him in the splendor of His holiness and let us ascribe glory to His name.
