September 1 – Losing to Save

“And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.  For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.” Luke 9:23-24  (ESV)

For those who read this blog occasionally or daily, we have hope that you have chosen to believe and have become followers of Jesus.  Jesus knows each of us who follow Him and  He is aware of our experiences every day.  In our verse today, Jesus is speaking of our experiences as being what we are doing every day.  The promise we have is that our salvation is from what Jesus has done for us.  By losing the life we had in order to honestly take on the life He has given to us, our life is saved and not a loss.  Jesus does expect His followers not to think of themselves but to think of Jesus and of His love for the world. Following Him means our eyes must be on Him and our attention must be on what He says to us in the Bible as we read it and as it is taught to us.  We must depend on Him to guide us and to help us make His love real to the people around us.  Today, let's commit to keeping our eyes and ears and attention on Him.
