August 8 – Not Yet But Promised and Soon

“Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.  And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.” 1 John 3:2-3 -   (ESV)

We have become children of God by accepting His Son Jesus Christ as our Savior.  Our verse today reminds us that God has plans to make us more and more like Himself.  God is at work in us – Paul, in his letter to Philippians, says “it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.”  And we can know that He is not finished with us yet because we are still here on earth in our bodies.   We can also know that the outcome is not fully known, our verse and promise say it has not yet appeared what we will be.  When will it be?  He is working in us now and when our time on earth is complete, we will appear in His presence for eternity.   What a tremendous promise from God that is nearly, if not beyond, a mind blowing concept if we stop and think about it. Doesn't this bring each of us encouragement today to press on and continue trusting the Lord and to keep our eyes on that goal that is ours in heaven?
