“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1 (ESV)
As we read through the Bible we find many times the words telling us not to fear or that we have no need to fear. Yet we still have times that fear fills our life for so many reasons. God is our defense against fear and that is our promise in this verse. What is a stronghold? A stronghold is a place where we are safe from the things that threaten us and frighten us. A stronghold is a defensive place and our stronghold is the Lord God Himself. We who have believed in Jesus as our Savior and by faith have received eternal life from Him are within our stronghold. We are safe from all that threaten us. Yes, we still face times that our physical bodies can be threatened and even those who believe might lose their physical life or temporal possessions but even that is not a loss to fear. We have salvation in the Lord and He shines on our paths and guides us. This promise is worth carrying with us today and every day.
