December 4 – Sharing Together

“We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.”  1 John 1:3 (NIV)

The Apostle John who was one of the twelve disciples of our Lord Jesus, wrote not only the Gospel of John but also three letters to those who believed in Jesus.  As we think now at Christmas time, of the coming of Jesus we need to appreciate what His coming means to us.  In our verse today, John reminds us that Jesus offers us His fellowship.  The word fellowship really speaks to a relationship of sharing and of having things in common with each other. Jesus came from heaven to share with human creatures things of eternal value.  He has brought us the prospect and the assurance of eternal life.  We have received the promise of fellowship with Jesus forever in heaven and also the promise of His presence with us each day we live on this earth until then.  Fellowship is what we can enjoy with each believer and with Him, our Savior.
