June 16 – Say Jesus Sent You

“In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you.” John 16:23 (ESV)

The Gospel of John has recorded much of what Jesus said and shared with His disciples on the day and evening before His arrest and then crucifixion. Our verse today comes from those recorded words. While Jesus was with His disciples during his ministry, they were used to asking Him questions and asking for His help. Now, he knew that He would leave them and it would not be possible in the same way for them to ask.  Jesus wanted them to know that the procedure would be different. They would be asking the Father in prayer but in the name of Jesus.  It is like Jesus said, “When you ask of God, tell Him Jesus sent you.“  We are used to praying in the name of Jesus and we mention His name at the end of our prayers. We do need to be aware though, all the time that we are praying, that we are talking to God in the name of His Son. God loves His Son. God is honored when we trust in that love relationship.
