May 10 – Hope Gives Real Joy

“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.”  Romans 5:1-2 (ESV)

We often notice in our chosen verses each day that God has great plans for those who are His children by faith. We have this again in today's verses. Let's focus first on the name of Jesus in verse 1 and then let's think today especially of the last part of verse 2. It is about rejoicing in the hope of the Glory of God. This doesn't mean that this is our only reason for rejoicing as a Christian. We are happy for what God has done for us in the past. Our burden of sin is lifted. We enjoy the assurance that God is with us every day meeting our needs. But let us also rejoice about what God is preparing for us in the future. We're expecting to experience God's glory and this hope, this expectation, gives real joy to us when we dwell on it. Let's think of it today and each day. Then we can say that we rejoice in the glory of God.
