March 17 – Believing Without Seeing

“Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory,” 1 Peter 1:8 (ESV)

When the Apostle Peter wrote this first of two letters he was writing to people who he knew had not seen Jesus in person the way he and the other disciples had. Or, even the way those who had encountered Jesus when he was walking the roads in Israel. These words describe our experiences too, don't they?  We have heard the expression “seeing is believing” and people often say that they won't believe something unless they have seen it with their own eyes.  But we believe in Jesus although we have not seen Him. It is a spiritual truth made real by the Holy Spirit. We not only believe in Jesus without seeing Him, we also love Him with our whole heart. We experience His love by the works of the Holy Spirit in our lives. And what does this do for us?  Our verse tells us that we are filled with an inexpressible joy.  Rejoice!
