“How blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! O LORD, they walk in the light of Your countenance. In Your name they rejoice all the day, And by Your righteousness they are exalted.” Psalm 89:15-16 (NASB)
God has revealed Himself to us in the Bible. At times in the past, he revealed Himself to people by identifying Himself by certain names. Psalm 89 has these verses which remind us how important His names are. In this Psalm, God is identified by the name LORD. This is but one of the many special names used to identify God according to his attributes and His person. The name LORD expresses our relationship to Him. He is the One who made the universe and who controls it. He is also the one who is in control of our lives as well, He is our perfectly righteous Lord. The verse speaks of a blessing for those who have learned to recognize this relationship. The fact of His presence with us, as the One in control of all things, leads us to call Him LORD and to acknowledge what that name means. It is a name that brings joy and rejoicing. Yes, LORD, You are the source of all good things and the light of your being brings joy to us all the day.
