January 13 – Is, Was, Will Always Be.

“Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, ” Revelation 1:4 (ESV)

In the book called The Revelation of Jesus Christ written by the apostle John, he includes letters addressed to seven churches in what is called Asia Minor. Our verse today is the greeting from the beginning of these letters. In that part of the world, it was, and still is, custom to greet people with the word “peace.”  We read this greeting now because of the way it expresses the deep meaning of the source of peace.  Remember where true peace comes from. It come from God and the reason He can give peace is because of who He is. To know that God has always been, that He is now, and that he always will be – that produces peace in our hearts, does it not? So when something disturbing happens let's remember that God is eternal and his promises are sure and absolute and depend upon him alone both now and forever. God is eternal and He is our God and that is why we can have the peace of God.
