“This is what the Lord says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’” Jeremiah 6:16 (NIV)
Our God has always been concerned about how His creatures live. He was concerned during the time of the prophet Jeremiah and sent this warning message to His chosen people of that day. They were refusing to walk in the good way. In the same way and for the same reason, He is concerned about us and desires for us to follow the right path each day. We have a great advantage over the people of long ago. God has provided for us a complete record in the Bible which we can all read. As we look to the Bible, it is like standing at a crossroads seeking where the good way is so that we can walk in it. We find instructions as to which way way to turn. Our promise in this verse is that when we walk in that good way we will find rest for our souls. Rest is what happens when we read and follow the directions given to us in the Bible.
