“Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.” James 1:18 (ESV)
We have good reason to be glad that God has given us the revelation of Himself in the Bible. We have been considering the gifts that have made us a part of God and that means we belong to the family of God. Of all His creatures, we who believe are the ones consecrated like the gift of firstfruits* of a harvest. We are born again when we believe in Jesus as Savior. Our verse today tells us that God has given us birth through His Word, the Word of Truth. This is accomplished by Him through our believing what has been recorded in the Bible. When we believe in what God has said in His Word He responds by choosing to give us new life.
