August 24 – Feels Our Pain

“When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled.” John 11:33 (NIV)

When we think of how Jesus reacted to human situations when He was here on earth we can learn how He reacts to the situations in our lives today. Jesus cares very deeply for us and pays attention to the situations we find ourselves in. Today's verse in the Gospel of John is about the death of His friend Lazarus and his sister Mary. Jesus was deeply moved by the sorrow that Lazarus' death had brought to those who loved him. Just two verses later we read how Jesus too felt the sorrow in the words - “Jesus wept.” Identified as the shortest verse in the Bible we find an encouraging message. This is a picture of how Jesus reacts to those times when He sees us in difficult situations – He joins with us in facing the troubles of life. What a comfort to know He is with us and feels our pain.
