July 9 – Great Purposes and Mighty Deeds

“Great and mighty God, whose name is the Lord Almighty, great are your purposes and mighty are your deeds.”  Jeremiah 32: 18b-19a (NIV)

Today we consider some words of worship written by God's prophet Jeremiah who lived in Jerusalem after the King of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar, had taken into exile most of the population. They were some dark days for those in Jerusalem. Jeremiah knew God as the Lord Almighty and he knew He was an all powerful God.  When dark days surround us we too need to remember what we know about God, that He is great and powerful and able to preform mighty deeds. God has great plans for our lives too and He is able to carry out his plans for our welfare regardless how things look to us. We can join with Jeremiah today in praising our great and mighty God who has great purposes for us. Let's remember this today, we have a God whose name is the Lord Almighty.
