July 13 – That We Might Have Hope

“For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.” Romans 15:4 (NIV)

Each day we must be very careful not to minimize the importance of God's provision of the Scriptures. God has always known that we human beings don't just naturally understand who He is. He has given us the Bible to reveal to us who He is and what He can do. He inspired those who wrote the original manuscripts and then He arranged for the writings to be preserved for us through many centuries. And our verse tells us that these writings in the Bible are intended to teach us and to encourage us in our Christian lives. They have been given to us so that we might have hope, a hope that is certain because it comes from God to us through His writings.
