July 11 – Satisfying a Thirst

“How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings. They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights.” Psalm 36:7-8 (NIV)

The psalmist uses several interesting expressions in this song to describe God's care for us who are His people. Today we want to think especially about the last words. He visualized a river from which people would drink to satisfy their thirst – he called it God's river of delights. God does satisfy our spiritual thirst in a delightful way. We receive much joy when God reveals His love for us. We can find our spiritual desires satisfied in the way our thirst is satisfied and quenched when we enjoy a refreshing drink. In God we find refuge under the shadow of His wings. We are fed out of His abundance and our thirst is delightfully satisfied. Let's remember all this today as God's love never fails.
