February 21 - Spirit, Soul and Body

“May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thessalonians 5:23 (NIV)

These words come at the end of the Apostle Paul’s first letter to the church in Thessalonica. The apostle uses a special expression to describe how God works in the lives of His followers. He prays that God would sanctify them through and through. He knew that this is what God wants to do in our lives. The second part of the verse mentions the spirit and the soul and the body and these are the three parts of our being. Our God is working with all three parts of us to make us what He wants us to be, completely set apart for Him alone. And our verse says that He wants our whole spirit, soul, and body to be for Him. This is what God wants, it is His will and it can be what we want too if we let Him work in us.
