Do you sometimes feel as if your faith in God is being tested? There are many who have had that experience. These words in this verse reveal that God has a purpose in allowing our faith to be tested. He is anxious to purify out faith – to refine it. Our faith is something very precious to our Lord. If our faith is refined it will focus on the greatness of our God. As someone has said, “It is not how great our faith is but how great our God is.” That’s why our faith is tested.

“These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.” 1 Peter 1:7 (NIV)
