You can know how to become a Christian and that it is the most important discovery of your life! Becoming a Christian is more than joining a church or saying a prayer. It is a personal relationship that will last for eternity. Do you know for certain what will happen to you the moment you die? Where will you find yourself? Where is your final destination?
There are only two destinations - and both are eternal:
- You will either find yourself living for eternity in heaven in the presence of God the Father, Jesus the Son, and The Holy Spirit. Revelation 21:3-4 described what living in Heaven will be like, “Behold, the tabernacle* of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.”
- The alternative is to find yourself in hell which is an eternity before the righteous, ever-burning wrath of God, a suffering torment from which there is no escape and no relief. . You will be existing for eternity in hell separated from all who you know on this earth family and friends, even those who also refused to believe and are in hell also. There is no fellowship, companionship, intercourse of any kind in hell. In Revelation 20:14-15 hell is described as a lake of fire.
Eternity in heaven - This destination is reserved for those who receive Jesus Christ's gift of eternal salvation. Contrary to popular belief, heaven is not for the church-goers, the devout, or the "good people." Only by believing God is who He says He does receive the free gift of salvation from God.
Eternity in hell is reserved for those who continue to reject Jesus Christ and His Gospel. The Bible sums up the Gospel like this: : "...That Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures" (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). Hell is described in the Bible as a fiery lake of burning sulfur.
How to Become a Christian - Studying the Facts
There is no formula or formal catechism steps to observe or fulfill. The Bible explains how to become a Christian in very simple terms:
- The most straightforward way to explain how to become a Christian is to say, "Believe in Christ Jesus." The Apostle John wrote his account of Jesus' earthly life for a very specific reason - That we may learn and believe Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that when believing, we receive eternal life."
"Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name." John 20:30-31 ESV - There is nothing that any person can do that will make them righteous and acceptable to God. There is no good works or enough good works by which one gains access to heaven. Recognizing that all people are spiritually bankrupt and have nothing to offer God that is enough to save them from hell. God and God alone does for each to save them and given them eternal life.
- Realize that everyone has sinned and cannot live up to God's standard of holiness. Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
- Understand that the penalty for our sin is death. Romans 6:23 states: "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
- Believe in God. God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die in our place, so we could be spared from hell. Romans 5:8 says, "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
- According to the Bible, we aren't required to subscribe to a religious formula or do more good things than bad ones. God gives His gift freely to all who ask. "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" (Romans 10:13).
How to Become a Christian - 100% Assurance
Once you understand how a person becomes a Christian, simply believe and accept God's gift. In Acts 16:31 the Apostle Paul said “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” The Bible says that you can be 100 percent assured of your eternal designation.
1 John 5:11-13 says, "And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life."
Do you know for sure that you will spend eternal life with God in heaven? If not, this is a decision you don't want to put off.
*The Tabernacle was given to the Nation of Israel when the Law was given to them through Moses. It was in the Tabernacle that the visible presence of the Lord God resided. Although God is omnipresent and not confined to one space and location, this manifestation was provided by God through the Cloud by day and Pillar of Fire by night as a guide and so that the people would know that God was with them.
